Jaxon & James Wool Felt English Bowler Hat - Black

We don't think there is a better wool felt bowler (or derby) in black out there! This style was created in 1850 as a hard hat for horseback riding while patrolling a game reserve by an English warden. In that tradition, this Jaxon & James version of the bowler is a little stiffer than its competitors. And in true English Style, a little shorter than the later American versions. The 100% wool felt quality is impressive and the hat comes fully lined with the Jaxon & James logo in the tips. The hat is trimmed with a grosgrain ribbon with a bow finish and side feather. The brim's edge in bound in grosgrain. For more info on bowlers see our info page on the bowler in our iconic hats page.

The size X-Large corresponds to a 61cm for the brown version. This information can be found in the Hat Sizing Info section at the bottom of the description.

We are sorry to hear the hat is too small! We measure our hats to provide the most accurate sizing information when we receive them into stock. It is very rare that a hat is incorrectly sized, however due to the handmade nature of hats, occasionally one may come up over or undersized.
In the future, please feel free to email us if you believe a hat is missized, we will happily advise you further!
Best regards,
The Village Hats team

I’m between sizes, I normally take a 62cm but on her advice I ordered 63cm, a perfect fit.
A really great hat, it got many admiring looks when I wore it for the first time today.
The last time I wore a bowler was in my teens in the 60s at various jazz festivals. Perfect hat to wear with my striped boating blazer, a real attention getter!!

I ordered one size smaller than I measured myself and it fits perfectly. That hint I learned from previous reviews.
I'm really pleased!!!

The sizes run a bit large, so you should probably order one size down from what you usualy wear. Still looks fantastic, though!

The bowler hat itself is beautiful. Also, it's price is attractive. An easy entry into the world of bowler hats - now I know I like this very special kind of hat.
In the future, Village Hats might put caring instructions into the parcel bringing it to the owner - the only point I'd like to add as a suggestion.
Kind regards, Nico Lindner

Size was a little big, but as my head has been measured again - for a new Crash Hat - by another retailer and again came up with LARGE when as far as protective head gear has always been concerned, Ive always been medium, it must be the shape of my head, no ribald comments please. A padding strip made by my better half and placed behind the sweat band has corrected the fit.
The service I received was excellent on all levels personal, shipping progress monitoring, and delivery.
I would suggest some care information be included with the hat, but having said that, it has been out in the rain and has dried out without adverse effect. Still, some T.L.C. tips would just add the icing on the cake.

My only slight complaint is that it took ages to pick off the glued-on feathers.
